"Community Partners" is a mentoring program
designed to link members of thementor picture community with adults with
developmental disabilities. Through regular contacts with their assigned
community partner, the program participant is able to meet and make new
friends in the community, enjoy new life experiences, and reduce dependency
upon agency support staff.

What is a "Community Partner"? |

A community partner is a member of the community who
is willing to serve as a friend and mentor to a fellow community member
with a physical or developmental disability. |

How do I become involved in the project? |

Potential community partners will complete an application.
Applicants are then interviewed to determine similar likes and interests
that they may have with a person with a disability. The program coordinator
will determine a potential "match" and then schedule and
facilitate the initial meeting. |

How much time is involved? |
| |
Community partners are asked to make a commitment for
at least a one-year period. Partners are requested to maintain contact
at least twice a month by phone and be involved once per month in
a scheduled activity. Such activities may include shopping, going
to a movie, dinner, travel, recreational events, or just visiting. |
