In 2008, Futures Unlimited, Inc. was granted an award from the Grundy,
Livingston and Kankakee County Workforce Board to start a program for
at-risk youth. This program provides eligible youth with academic education,
vocational training, paid work opportunities and instruction in life skills
and employment seeking skills. Services will be customized for each
individual, depending on their needs and interests. Program components may
include:
- Career Exploration
- Job shadowing
- Volunteer Employment
- Job Search skills training
- Job coaching
- Job development and placement
- Mentoring (peer and adult)
- Academic skills reinforcement
- GED test preparation
- Life skills including stress management, anger management, sexual
harassment, budgeting, community resources, work and life balance,
working with supervisors and co-works, etc.
- Vocation skills training (i.e. fork lift training, food sanitation,
CNA, etc.)
- Work skills training and paid work opportunities, including facility
based training, Encore Shoppe, Mobile Crews and community employers.
