A variety
of skill training opportunities are available, depending on individual
interests and program availability. Skill training may include:
§ Edit
U on-line training
is available at Futures Unlimited. The Edit U program is a
partnership with Western Michigan University and Skill Soft. Over
8000 hours of corporate quality tuition-free on-line training in a
variety of career related fields is offered and can be accessed through
the agency.
§
Classroom Training
is offered in a variety of subjects. Some topics include computer use,
job seeking and job retention skills, current events, reading, math, GED
prep, and budgeting. Classes are taught individually or in small
groups.
§
Community Work Contracts
The agency subcontracts with area businesses to provide work crews
on an as-needed basis for a variety of seasonal and year-round labor.
§ Production
Training Participants
learn production skills including labeling, sorting, collating, quality
control, packaging, and assembly. Individuals are paid on a piece-rate
basis for production training. All individuals in production training
must meet a monthly classroom training requirement.
§
Retail Training
is available at
The
Encore Shoppe, an agency
owned and operated resale shop. Training
includes practical knowledge in cash management, customer service, cash
register use, and stocking.
§ JETS
Janitorial Employment Training
Service
offers in-house training to prepare individuals for
employment. Skills learned include office cleaning, floor and
carpet maintenance, use of industrial cleaning supplies and machinery,
and safety techniques.
